Hydrow needed the Lyquid mobile experience to feel like the brain of its new strength system, coordinating hardware, resistance, video, and coaching in real time. Any lag, crash, or UX seam would break the illusion of “a full weight room, reimagined.”

Hydrow launched Lyquid with a mobile experience robust enough for a new connected strength product line and adaptable enough to support ongoing growth, powered by BetterEngineer’s embedded mobile developers.

Lyquid is more complex than a typical fitness app. It has to pair securely with smart hardware, respond to real‑time resistance changes without stutter, surface the right coaching and movement guidance, and keep members’ strength history in sync across devices.

Hydrow’s teams were already pushing hard on hardware, content, and platform services, so the mobile layer had to keep up without becoming a bottleneck.

That translated into four concrete challenges:

Build and maintain the Lyquid mobile experience with production‑grade architecture in Jetpack Compose and Kotlin, while keeping it extensible to other Hydrow apps.
Ship and test features that relied on physical hardware interactions.
Establish reusable infrastructure so new strength formats and product changes wouldn’t require rebuilding core components.
Ramp external engineers fast enough that they could be productive within two weeks and contribute end-to-end, from UI and business logic to API integration, under Hydrow's engineering leadership.
